Responding to London moving into Tier 2 restrictions, Richard Brown, Deputy Director, Centre for London said:
“Moving all of London to ‘High’ levels of restriction will be a body blow for a city that has been hit hard by coronavirus and its consequences.
“The blow may be toughest for the already bruised central London economy, where people from across the city and beyond come together to socialise and to work, and for Transport for London, whose passenger numbers have been recovering but very slowly.
“We fully endorse the Mayor’s call for support targeted at London’s most exposed sectors (hospitality and cultural industries), for an urgent rescue package for Transport for London, and for the resources that local authorities and other public agencies need to protect London’s most vulnerable as far as possible. We also hope that the Mayor will work with the government to ensure restrictions can be lifted as quickly as possible.”
